The band were lucky enough to march with hundreds of pipers, drummers, various musicians and scottish clans in Stirling last month to mark the 700th anniversary of the Battle of Bannockburn.
It was a thoroughly enjoyable event; a particularly exciting experience for some of our newer members and learners.
You can see some footage of the event on Youtube, just type in Pipefest Stirling.
The band’s next big trip is to Glasgow on August 15th for the World Pipe Band Championships – their first year taking part! Watch this space for more on that.
Many thanks to Steven Tolson for the photo!
On Saturday 15th February the band is having a fundraising night at the Polish Club in Scunthorpe. Tickets cost £7.50 for what’s sure to be an entertaining night! There will be a disco, hypnotist and raffle, so if you’d like to come along and show your support please get in contact by clicking here or through any member of the band.
The night will raise much needed funds to go towards the cost of coaches for Pipefest Stirling and The World Pipe Band Championships in Glasgow. You can read more about the band attending Pipefest Stirling here.
SDPBHD are pleased to announce we are one of 160 lucky winners of Skipton Building Society’s Big 160 Grassroots Giving award. This award is a grant that will go towards our new set of drums needed for the upcoming competition season.
Skipton Building Society celebrated a massive 160 years last year, and as part of their celebrations, they generously decided to donate 160 x £500 grants to community organisations nationwide. There were a massive 1000 applications, and after being shortlisted, winners were decided using public votes. SDPBHD was shortlisted and consequently won one of the 160 awards. We are so grateful for the support and would like to thank every single person that voted for us. Being a not-for-profit organisation, we appreciate (and count!) every last penny the band receives through donations and earnings.

We also had the pleasure of posing for some photographs for Skipton’s press release, taken by the lovely Rob Dray from Lincoln Display Images. Here’s our favourite shot:
